Before You Start Driving
In order to take
driving lessons on the public highway, you must be at least 17 years
old and hold a provisional driving licence. The D1 form you will
require to apply for a provisional licence can be obtained
from most Post Offices or, alternatively, you can
apply online.
The cost of a provisional licence is currently £38.00.
You are not allowed to
drive until you have received your provisional driving licence and
have signed it and you must then be accompanied by a fully qualified
driver at all times until you have taken and passed both the theory
and practical parts of the Driving Test. The accompanying driver
must be over 21 years of age and have held a full driving licence
for at least 3 years.

Getting Started
The scope of the
Driving Test has been expanded over the last few years and now
comprises a Theory Test and a Hazard Perception Test in addition to
the practical driving test. The Theory Test and Hazard Perception
Test are computer-based and must be taken and passed before you can
apply for your practical test.
More Information. The Driving Standards Agency has now devised
some practise Theory Tests which you can
take online.
Although you must
take the Theory and Hazard Perception tests before you take your
practical test, it's nevertheless wise to get in at least some
practical driving experience under tuition before taking these
tests.
As your instructor,
I will help you to gain the necessary skills to take both the theory
and practical parts of the Driving Test, working at a pace to suit
your abilities and requirements.
